Purposeful Play in the Park

Join us for a morning of outdoor play, exploration, and connection at Glover Park in Hudson.

Purposeful play supports children’s development while creating meaningful moments for families to connect with nature and each other. This relaxed, drop-in style event is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and active bodies outdoors. Learn about the supports and services available in your community and meet other families.

Activities include:

  • Birdseed Egg Hunt & Nature Craft
Children will search for birdseed eggs and string them to hang in trees for birds.

  • Flower Printing
Use real flowers and natural materials to create prints on paper and on the sidewalk.

  • Loose Parts Play
Open-ended materials that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and imaginative play.

  • Sidewalk Games
Classic outdoor games that encourage movement and social play.

  • Infant Play Area
A quiet space with blankets and simple materials for our youngest explorers.

This event is designed for young children and their caregivers; siblings are always welcome.

Come enjoy a morning of purposeful play outdoors.

Kids in Nature | SPRING Forest

Kids in Nature is a hands-on, family-centered outdoor class designed for children ages 3–8 and their parents or caregivers. Together, families will explore the newly awaking spring woods, create with natural materials, and engage in playful, seasonal activities inspired by folk traditions and the natural world.

Children will have opportunities to:

  • Paint with mud

  • Weave using natural materials

  • Investigate plants and germination

  • Deep dive into dandelions

  • Experience loose parts play in nature

Through these experiences, children strengthen sensory awareness, fine motor skills, cooperation, problem-solving, and confidence in outdoor environments—all through joyful, play-based learning.

Parents and caregivers will also receive supportive guidance and access to a shared folder of nature-based resources to help extend learning beyond the class and into everyday outdoor experiences.

All participants should come dressed in weather-appropriate clothing, ready to explore and play outdoors.

Location: Marine Mills Folk School
550 Pine St., Marine on St. Croix, MN 55047

Tuition: $60 per family
